Taconic Crest Trail to Snow Hole

Petersburgh, NY

Back in the Good Ole’ U S of A!

Not gonna lie, I was originally hoping to start my AT day hike this weekend but life and lack of energy caught up with me. After much debate I decided Tilly and I would hike closer to home and attempt one of the Taconic Crest hikes.

I was very grateful for the post on AllTrails that clued me into the hike being ACROSS the road because I almost set out to do a completely different hike!

Yup, that little green and blue post is the trail start

Apart from finding the trail, it was highly enjoyable if perhaps underwhelming. The first half mile was a bit of a climb but the rest of the path was a very gradual ascent that ends in a loop around the snow hole. Since I did this hike in May, I did not expect to see any snow…and I was not surprised when all I saw was water in a hole.

A few views were visible along the way, however, and Tilly and I took our time enjoying a leisurely day on the trail.

Up Next: the first day hike of the AT?
